Appreciating Color!

Color! I can’t even imagine a world without color…and I don’t want to! Color has such a valuable role in the world we live…and more personally…the world I live in. I just love how deeply personal color can be! Color can sway thinking, change actions, and cause reactions. It can trigger memories and evoke emotion. It has the power to irritate or soothe eyes, raise blood pressure, calm nerves, even suppress your appetite.

I recently wrote a poem related to color and emotion. It was a moment I felt very fragile, and I was not sure if I would allow myself to feel that way. I like to think I am emotionally strong, so I had to ask my myself if it was ok to be fragile for a moment. The answer came out as this poem that I am going to share with you.

In this moment,

am I free to be a delicate shade?

A mere tint or hue of a stronger color…

I embrace that the answer is not black and white,

nor am I!

It is ok!

Even in the grey…..

It is ok!

luminous, beautiful, radiant, strong colors, feel easier to share.

Courage seems needed to expose the softer, subtle,

sometimes dimming, or even messy colors.

But…. all MY colors DO have value….

I delight in the intense, bold, vibrant, and sometimes sparkling colors,

and still….. I appreciate the weathered but enduring, faint but present,

weaker but not less, delicate colors.

It is the vast array of colors that make my life more beautiful…

and I choose to embrace them ALL!

Have you taken any time to enjoy the colorful world around, or inside you today? If not, I would like to challenge you to think of a color that might describe an emotion you feel right now. Or Spend some time soon, intentionally focused on the colors around you, and ask yourself how they make you feel. Seek out colors that make you feel more inspired and alive! Where are those colors?

Nature is my favourate place to seek inspiring colors!

I’m always all about the combination of turquoise (or teal) and orange. I don’t know why but it’s just so yummy to me! Love those bright beads, btw.

Ha! I was thinking about my favorite colors of the moment – teal and coral when I read the comment from Sarajo Wentling. I agree – great summery colors. I have also been working with lots of metallic and pinks in some beadloomed bracelets. Your beads are beautiful!

I think that when you feel an urge to express yourself, you have to do it! I love this “all MY colors DO have value”, this is how I try to treat people around me and would like them to treat me – doesn’t always work – both ways 🙂 I love all shades of green, mint seems to be my favorite lately!

Thank you! Yes, we can’t change how others treat us but here is a quote I love….

Great post! My favorite colors are the greens. I like all the colors, but the very blue ones are my least favorite (although I love turquoise). I’ll have to look at blues in nature and see what is up with that. Thanks for the giveaway.

Haha Ann! I had to laugh…maybe there is some childhood memory of a mean man in a very blue suit who scared you!! I think I already knew you were into greens;) Earthy colors…yes!

I am surrounded by colours and I use a lot of vibrant colours in my work. But in the past few days I have been gravitating towards muted grays and whites. Colours seem to agitate and make me angry and I have been losing my temper easily due to stress and fatigue. This is so unlike me. I seem to want nothing more than the peace and quiet of gray. I did not realise it until I read your poem and started thinking about my feelings. Thank you for an opportunity to play along

Yes I have seen you use many vibrant colors Divya! I love that you solved why you are gravitating to whites and greys…for peace and quite. That must be what you are in need of, at least for now! Colors effect me emotionally as well!

I really enjoyed your poem….it expresses so much of how I feel about being accepting of all the colors I ‘feel’. That’s easier said than done! I was very touched by your sentiments.
I loooove color!….especially purple in all its hues. Cheery yellow. Bright pink. Cobalt blue. Magenta. Emerald green.
Thank you for your introspective post and the generous giveaway. Beautiful porcelain beads!

Hi Jules! Apparently you are lucky number 6 and win the porcelain bead set! Congradulations! Email me with your address and I will mail them out to you ([email protected]).
Also, thank you for your kind words and sharing your thoughts! We humans are emotionally complex….I have seen many people go to great lengths to hide and bury emotions, to their own detriment. For me, accepting and understanding emotions is not black and white, and it looks different for everyone, and sometimes it even gets messy. But they are (or feel) REAL, and I find, facing the things that are real, no matter how scary, lead to personal growth!
