Studio Saturday with Jangles

Welcome to Studio Saturday! Each week one of our contributors gives you a sneak peek into their studio, creative process or inspirations. We ask a related question of our readers and hope you’ll leave comments! As an incentive we offer a free prize each week to bribe you to use that keyboard. The following week we choose a random winner.

Last weeks winner is Connie. Congratulations you’ve won one of Lynn’s pewter medallion medal charms . Send Lynn an email and she will get it right out to you.
This week we are in the studio with Jennifer Heynen of Jangles.

Happy Saturday! Usually here at the Art Bead Scene we talk about Art Beads but this week we are going to go a bit of subject. I hope you don’t mind and I promise next time to be back on the subject of art beads. I am just so excited I have to share some news with you….

Today we are going to talk fabric. I am thrilled to be able to show you and announce my new fabric line! I have been working behind the scenes for quite a while on this project and I love that now I can share it with you. It is called Happy and is being produced by In The Beginning Fabrics. Right now it’s available for wholesale order. It will ship to independent quilt shops all over the country and the world starting in September. If you’re a sewer, now is the time to make a request at your quilt shop for the fabric and my buttons. Take a look at a few of the fabrics below. There are 24 in all.

With 24 fabrics in all and me as the designer, you can probably guess there is a rainbow of colors available. Along with my fabric in stores you will also find my buttons. I create some new ones specifically to match my fabrics. You can see some below.

If you want to see all of the fabric or if you want a chance at winning one of my woodland beads hop on over to my blog, you can see it all here.

I am going to make this weeks question an easy one, Do you sew? Let me know and I will send you your own stash of my buttons.

Have a great day!
Jennifer

Hi, i used to sew a lot. Clothes, cushions, furniture-clothing and more. Today i unfortunately don't get around doing it. Mostly because my illness, ms, and that i don't have the energy to do all the things i want. I am choosing the beading before sewing. I have lots of ideas for clothes though. I have a number of scetches now, and will ask a friend who works professionally with sewing to help me. It's on my list of things i should do, to contact her. I think i will go ahead today, because this just got me going with that.

It seems to be very much fun to design fabric patterns. I know quite a few people in that business here in Sweden.

    All my best,
    Malin

I dabbled a little bit in sewing while having my machine back in canada, but it got put into storage after the move to korea (too big to bring). I have been playing a little bit with sewing here in korea, and am in the process of hand stitching myself some curtains.

    Jennifer,
I was so excited when I first learned about your line of fabric. How exciting it must be to see your creations in shops! And the matching buttons are just darling!

I don't sew, except for the occasional repair of a beloved stuffed animal or a lost button. My mother never learned to sew, and I took art in school rather than Home Ec. When I was young my mother sent me to the home of two spinster sisters to learn the art of sewing. It didn't take them long to realize I was a lost cause, so they settled on teaching calligraphy instead. I took to it right away and have always enjoyed the art.

    Hi Jennifer,

What a great studio you have! Yes, I do sew – I just recently took up bead embroidery. I'm fascinated by seed beads and have joined the Bead Journal Project this year (http://www.beadjournalproject.com/) to create one beaded piece a month for the whole year. I'm enjoying trying improvisational beading – a really creative and fun way to bead without a plan. One of your buttons would be a terrific starting point for one of my pieces! Good luck with your new fabric line – such fun designs!

I do hand sewing – Christmas ornaments, etc. I like to use buttons to decorate things. I also like to use buttons in jewelry. And I really like anything that Jennifer makes.

I sew. I used to make a lot of my clothes, then my work life got to busy and my extra time went to playing with beads and wire. I bought a new sewing machine last year to make table covers for shows. I'm looking forward to making some dresses and tops this summer.

I do not sew, although I really admire one-of-a-kind art clothing. I do enjoy making bracelets with button closures and have quite a collection of cool buttons. I love your buttons!

I don't sew and my mom still has the finger guard on her sewing machine when she did let me try to sew. Though I do love looking at fabrics and drooling over the other stuff people sew. I am really envious of you guys who can sew! Love the colors and styles of your fabrics. Congrats!

I don't sew much anymore but I knit and your buttons would be awesome. I WISH I sewed more – I would use your fabrics! (Time to excavate the sewing machine!)

That a great idea with swapping buttons. I am going to have to go through my wardrobe and see what I have to swap around. Hmm, you've got me thinking.

Yep, I taught myself to sew years ago while living in the frozen north of Montana where my first job after graduating from nursing school was. Now that I'm retired I have my sewing desk and jewelry bench right next to each other. So I can move from one project to another when ever inspiration strikes!! 🙂

    Hi Jennifer,
I'm surpised to see how many beaders also sew, when they have time!! I went from quilting to beading, quilting was hurting my fingers, what a joke, as if picking up each tiny bead is going to help. Your work is amazing and so out of my zone, glad you're there to supply these bright happies.

YES! I love to sew — my own clothes, home dec stuff, crafty stuff, bags, purses, kids' clothes and costumes….and medieval clothing. I would love some of your buttons, and I surely will keep my eyes open at my local quilt shop for your fabrics!

Oh my what wonderful fun bright fabrics! Do I sew? I've made hundreds of quilts and have a fabric stash larger than my bead stash, more than I'd ever have a chance to sew with but we always need lots of choices of palettes to work with!

Congratulations on your new line. I remember spending hours in quilt shops in New England going through stacks and stacks of fat quarters, some too precious to even use 🙂 Yours are delightfully fresh!

When I use the scroll button to move the image up and down, the fabric with the gears looks as if the gears are interlocking and moving! Is this just my monitor or does anyone else see this?

Have you tried sewing metal? I think it's Interweave that has a book about it. It looks really cool.

I was wowed by your designs when I checked out your blog. They are aptly named. As for sewing, yes I do, in fact I used to make my own clothes when I was younger.

For a long time I stopped but am going to start again both sewing for myself and making accessories to sell. I love fabric and have several containers of cloth I can use as I am always buying more!

And if I have some of your buttons along with your fabric I will be in heaven. Good Luck with your newesr endeavour.
