Studio Saturday – Humblebeads

Welcome to Studio Saturday! Each week one of our contributors gives you a sneak peek into their studio, creative process or inspirations. We ask a related question of our readers and hope you’ll leave comments! As an incentive we offer a free prize each week to bribe you to use that keyboard. The following week we choose a random winner.
We have three winners this week: moonlightfantaseas, rosebud101, For My Sweet Daughter!
Congratulations! You have won etched copper tags from Erin Prais-Hintz of Tesori Trovati!
Send Erin an e-mail with your address and she will get it right out to you.

Now let’s head on over to the
Humblebeads Studio…

There are 34 days until the Bead & Button show.
My life is consumed with this countdown at the moment…
I’m working on new beads that will hopefully dazzle – like the headpins above.

Making piles and piles of things.  I press beads at night while we watch movies.  We’ve watched entire series over the last few weeks.  This is one of many trays.
Or like last night, I don’t go to bed until 2am because inspiration struck at 11pm.
These are pendants with vintage images – I’m all over bicycles, umbrellas, beehives, birds, foxes, butterflies & nests.  They aren’t quite done, I’m going to play around with some antique finishes and I think I’ll try some in sepia tones as well.  I also have some sketches to do some tiny watercolors and use them for pendants too.

Despite these little bits of squirrelling away, I’m far from being ready.   Preparing for Bead & Button is a Herculean task that must be mixed in with already packed days.  But no matter what, I will be ready by June 7th – car packed and heading up the road!

So two questions – what type of vintage image would you like to see in a pendant and most importantly – will you be at Bead & Button this year?
If so, mark booth #1212 as one to stop by and say hello to me!
This week’s prize is a pair of my new headpins, leave a comment for a chance to win.

Your beads are wonderful! I'm sure your booth will be packed. Vintage images? How about mermaids, shells and sea turtles? I think we've all seen too many octopus by now. Good luck!

Gotta love that late night visit from the muse, right?! Thank goodness for coffee (or your beverage of choice)!

The vintage pendants are awesome. I love the variety so it's hard to choose. I think so far I like the colored ones like the butterflies but the detail on the beehives and floral design is a super close second.

    Have an awesome weekend!

Wish I could be at the Bead Show, but since I'm can't, I would love to see lots of vintage beads on your Etsy site. I really like vintage scenes from Paris, gardens, bees and beehives, and of course the ocean. Love your new attempt at vintage. This could be an exciting adventure for your creative mind.

I did a line of pillows about 20 years ago with vintage drawings of eyeglasses, microscopes, and dragonflies. How about bicycles? The ones that have the large from wheel.

    good luck!

Not going to the B&B Show. If I was I would hang out with you all day.

The vintage pendants are extraordinary! Truly! I would like to see images of pretty ladies with hats on or small children in knickers or women from the 50's and men in fedora's.

Have fun at B&B. I hope you're not too tired to enjoy it.

    I love the new headpins!

I also really like the vintage-inspired pendants, especially the black and white ones. The nature-inspired ones will probably sell really well, but I tend to like images on pendants that I don't see all over the place (like the bicycle)!

I won't be at B&B this year, but I hope you have a wonderful show!

Bead & Button is that close! Gah! I am feeling anxious for you! But it will all be worth it when we kick back and celebrate!
Love those vintage images. I would love to see botanicals and birds, maybe even something that is Asian inspired, like the zen paintings with black ink. Or anything like those pictures you might find in an old dictionary. I love those. These are great! Can't wait to see you!
    Enjoy the day!

Your headpins are brilliant – in design and in color! Ideas? I'm thinking about owls because so many were injured in recent tornadoes here. I know they've been around the jewelry scene, but we still love them, don't we? I also love the sea turtle suggestion. Maybe anything that's endangered. I'm sure you'll be a hit at B @ B!

Those headpins are so sweet! Though I've never been to something as big as Bead and Button, I can relate to the urgency of preparing for shows. I never really feel completely done, always wondering what I forgot or worrying if I brought enough product.

I love antique images of horses and cows. And I also like the images of sassy ladies from the 50's and 60's. And eventhough the bathing beauties seems to be overdone, I still like them.

Very, very cool beads and images! Looking forward to visiting you at Bead and Button. My first time there, combining it with visits to my sister in Milw, my son/daughter-in-law in Madison and brother in Racine. Wahoo, can't wait!

Didn't even realize this was a give-away til today- I must have been sleepy yesterday. I would love to see a pendant with the old fashioned tricylce bikes with the huge front wheel. My mom did a pen and ink when she was in art school that I always loved of a man in victorian dress riding one of those. It would make a lovely gift for her if you make one – I WILL BUY IT!!

Your headpins and beads are very cool! Thanks for a chance to win!
    I won't be a Bead & Button 🙁
I am predicting that acorns will become a popular image, since they were on the ears of the new princess bride (diamond studded of course). And I love anything nature inspired – so – acorns!

    Very nice pieces!

Of cause I love everything with old-fashioned botanical pictures. Right now, I have thing for ferns (or more precisely their unfurling fronds). And old maps/map fragments. Text is never wrong either, hand-writeen or vintage labels/ads. Other than that, I always like cat motifs.

Not going to B&B. Even if I'd had the money to go to the US, I wouldn't be able to as I don't fly.

I would LOVE to be at the Bead & Button show!! But alas it is not meant to be this year. Maybe next year…

I think images of vintage cars could be fun! Something you could add to a cord for a guy 🙂

I would like to see some Victorian houses in the mix. I think that would need with a sepia glaze.

And I only wish that I could attend but it isn't in the budget.
