The Earring Whisperer: Inspiration for Art Journey 6, the works of Katarzyna Kobro

Lately, the majority of my work has been (and, usually is) using vintage pieces. With this Art Challenge, it was time to switch gears! I do love modern art, but it’s not always easy to flip that switch in my head.

I studied the sculpture for weeks, adding it to my cell phone so I could stare at it during lunch breaks or in bed. I decided to concentrate on just the lines. I was hoping that from there my mind would open up to even more possibilities.

So, for my first piece, I used heavy gauge wire and shaped it on a mandrel. I wanted to bring in bold color so I used intense yellow glass cubes by Kimberly Rogers of Numinosity Beads.

My second piece was inspired by Ann Schroeder’s necklace in her last challenge post. I loved her use of the black cording to separate the shapes and how she built in pops of color for impact.

Primary color and white necklace featuring red and white long rectangle connectors, rolled black and silver metal beads and a large red disc on black linen.

I used ceramic pieces by Tracey Seder Donoughe separated with small matte black seed beads and enamel red dot charms by Sara Aho Lukkonen.

I also made a necklace using geometric shapes from handmade Indonesian Resin. I’m really crazy about this piece; I adore the matte frosted blues with pops of black. This is ME doing modern…lol

I continued on with an oversized modern lobster claw clasp and a dark, large, open-ring, I think it lends an interesting surprise element to the back which is something I love to do. In fact, sometimes the back is my favorite part.

Below is a closeup of the focal which is an oversized vintage lucite tube bead.

Many thanks for stopping by – I hope you’ve found some inspiration today! Please feel free to leave a comment or ask a question.
