Design Inspirations

Break Away

With easter just past and the children only just back at school I have not been in the workshop very much at all, so I thought I would share some inspiration with you from the short break we took to the city of Bath (UK)

Bath is a city rich with history, ancient ruins and beautiful architecture, home to what is described as one of the finest historic sites in northern Europe you can’t help but visit and be inspired.

We visited the Roman Baths on a drizzly day, even the poor weather couldn’t detract from this incredible place.

I love the colours from the main pool, that green next to the stone with a hint of mist over the hot water created such an amazing atmosphere!

Along side the beautiful baths were displays of artefacts found during the excavation.

These stones were used for casting metal objects

Another casting stone, the little face in the corner amused me. The stones themselves appeal to my inner smith.

Found rings, either lost in the waters or given in dedication to the gods

I can’t wait to get into the workshop now, this place and its colours, its history with stay with me for a while, but mostly I think its the atmosphere that I won’t shake off, a deep sense of history, something rich and almost tactile.

Whilst on our trip we also visited Glastonbury, famous for its hippies and festival, druids and alternative lifestyles! I will save that for another post, its the opposite of all I have just written about, colourful, bright and amazing in a totally different way.
