Art Journey #5 Wrap Up

I know that this particular collection of art from Joseph Cornell would be a challenge for most. But I think that our readers and editors both proved they were up to the task with all the interesting takes on the art! That is exactly what I was hoping for!

I neglected to post my own Art Bead Evolutions last week because I was busy teaching at the Adornments Mixed Media Jewelry retreat. This was the third annual and it was almost sold out! I was an instructor along with Heather Powers of Humblebeads, Jess Lincoln of Vintaj and the incomparable Candie Cooper. We had a wonderful time up on the mountain with the most gorgeous vistas to inspire and delight! We are already hard at work to make Adornments 2020 the best one yet.

So here are a few of the Shadow Box beads that I made inspired by the challenge. These are my own polymer clay box beads that I created aided by a tutorial from Nikolina Otrzan. Her box beads were more like the outline of a box, and I decided to fill mine in and also to coat them with a brilliant gold mica powder so that they could hold interesting bits, or be interesting on their own. Everyone knows that the best things come in tiny packages and that is what these Shadow Box beads can hold, teeny tiny treasures! I made them in two sizes, the long box you see here, about 2 1/4 inches, and smaller box sets for earring pairs. I did create a necklace (below) with some of them that is currently juried into a local art exhibit, the 20th Annual Visions exhibit. I strung some precious gems inside the shadow box beads, AB finish rough cut rondelles of carnelian with awesome flashes of blue-green and 24K gold plated garnet nuggets, and a long embellished leather tassel, of course!

So let’s see what you were inspired to make. Here is a little slider of the things that were made inspired by Joseph Cornell’s mesmerizing little world. I simply adore all the teeny tiny things!
